275 – Paul Freeman – The Legendary Hunters of Texas

Paul Freeman is a Navy Veteran who worked in VFA-201 Hunters Reserve Navy Squadron as a maintenance chief.

I got to meet Paul through TSP-The Scuttlebutt Podcast. Paul served with Richard Fleek and I appreciated the opportunity to learn more about this storied Naval Aviation Squadron.

I started off by reading the book that Paul wrote that chronicles the history of VF-201/VFA-201 from 1976 with the F-8s to being decommissioned in 2007. Paul talked about his experiences with the book and how he came to support the Gary Sinise Foundation with the proceeds from The Legendary Hunters of Texas. You can find it by using this link to Amazon: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asin=B071WBNMN7&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_TS75DD0SMZ07793MTEQX

In a way, VFA-201 is like other military units that are decommissioned. They are gone and sometimes can be forgotten. Paul wrote this book so that wouldn’t happen. Thank again to every Hunter who was Legendary!

274 -Brian Gibson – Project DieHard 22

When you talk with Brian Gibson the first thing that stands out is the voice. It is a voice that has known sorry but is still strong. The strength that is needed to stand up Forward Operating Base Rush in Paducah, KY as part of Project Die Hard 22.

Brian states, “Having served this country for 26 years as a Soldier and Combat Medic, I lost more of my Brothers and Sisters to suicide when we got home than I did during our time deployed in combat. I wanted to bring awareness to Veteran Suicide, which led me to start Project Diehard.”

The Team is working to raise the money needed to finish building Forward Operating Base Rush. FOB Rush will be a place where Veterans can get the help and services they need for up to a year.

Brian’s vision is a bold one. FOB Rush is in the process of being built out and your help can bring that goal closer to becoming a reality. Go to https://projectdiehard.org/ to learn more. Thank you for talking with me Brian, One is Too Many

167 – Danielle Rocco – Devoted to Soldier

I had the pleasure of talking with Danielle Rocco remote and on location. She is a Marine Mom, transformation coach, speaker and now author of, “Devoted to a Soldier.” She talked with me about her work with Veterans Advocacy.

The question has to be what hasn’t Danielle done? Professional ballerina, business owner, author, filmmaker, coach and now Veterans Advocate, Danielle believes anyone can make positive change in their lives at anytime.

Devoted to a Soldier is about develop strong relationships. The strongest being with one’s self. As I listened to Danielle talk about this during our time, I felt that I was on that path. Getting reminded of what I need to do daily was coaching at its best.

You can go to Danielle’s website – https://devotedtoasoldier.com/ to learn more about her documentary and Veteran’s Advocacy work.

165 – Jim Tough 600 – 22 for 22 Charlie Mike

Jim Tough has been doing pushups for 600 Days to raise awareness about Veterans Suicide and the harm PTSD does to people. It is more than just pushups though, Jim relays an inspirational message to people who need to hear it. Sometimes these messages are a NCOs proverbial boot in the south end but they are from the heart. I have learned a lot from listening to the messages of the day.

Jim doesn’t do these for the attention. The goal is to get to a point where he doesn’t have to do them at all. The need is real. Please do not use a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

160 – Questions

160 – Questions

Question 1

What do you think of the Marines who got caught smuggling people over the border?

I would say that idle hands are devils tools. This is a question I am asked often about situations like this. All I can say it is a combination of poor leadership, people who have no morals, and sorry excuses for Marines.

Question 2

When are you going to do another Jody Podcast?

Soon. I discussed why I do podcasts about infidelity in the military. Whether military or civilian, infidelity is not a victimless crime. Questions need to be asked when you see someone going through this.

Question 3

What has been your favorite podcast?

I don’t think I have a favorite podcast. There are aspects of podcasting that I really enjoy. My favorite thing is asking the questions that make people think.

Question 4

What do you think Veterans need?

I think need is constant. So whatever the need is, I believe the questions should be focused around connecting the Veterans to resources that already exist. People need to understand that making the connection between resource and Veteran is a difficult task at times .
