Purple Heart Luncheon – Brockton, MA

Kelly Young, the Director of Veterans Services for the City of Brockton asked me to speak at the Purple Heart Luncheon on August 7th, 2024. This year the following Veterans and their families were honored.

  • P02 Lawrence R. Cosgrove – U.S. Navy – MIA WWII
  • SGT Lawrence Holmes Flynn – USMC – KIA WWII
  • 1LT John Michael Mitchell – U.S. Army – WWII
  • PVT John Arthur Retalis – U.S. Army – WWII

It was an honor to attend the ceremony and speak about the history of the Purple Heart Award and share a story from a Purple Heart Veteran. It was fitting that this ceremony took place at the Brockton War Memorial. This grand old building gave a reverence to the ceremony that was appropriate and fitting for the War Memorial’s namesake.

Thank you to everyone who participated in making the ceremony truly special for these Purple Heart families. It was an honor to speak with you all today.
